This is a dry inoculant, not a fertilizer — the goal is contact between the granules and roots or soil. Trichoderma colonize fastest where roots are actively growing, so transplanting and repotting are the highest-value moments to apply.

What's Inside

Two Trichoderma species lead the blend — Trichoderma harzianum at 28.6 million cfu per pound and Trichoderma viride — fast-growing soil fungi that colonize the zone immediately around roots. They're among the most studied organisms in soil biology for a simple reason: they establish quickly, compete hard for space and resources in the root zone, and grow alongside roots as they extend, so the beneficial biology keeps pace with the plant instead of getting left behind.

They don't work alone. The same bacterial bench as the rest of the TPS soil line — Bacillus subtilis and five other Bacillus and Paenibacillus species at 580-680 million cfu per pound each, plus two Streptomyces — handles nutrient cycling, and mycorrhizal fungi (led by Rhizophagus intraradices) colonize the roots themselves, extending their reach for water and phosphorus. There's no NPK by design: this establishes the living layer around roots; your fertilizer feeds the plant that grows through it.

How do I apply Trichoderma to plants?

At transplanting, sprinkle it on the roots and in the hole — that's where colonization starts fastest. For new soil, mix 4 Tbs per cubic foot. For established beds, spread 4 Tbs per 100 sqft into the topsoil and water; potted plants take 1/2 to 1 tsp (small-medium) or 1/2 to 1 Tbs (large). What is Trichoderma and why would I add it to soil?

Trichoderma are naturally occurring soil fungi found in healthy root zones worldwide — among the fastest-colonizing beneficial organisms in soil. They establish in the space around roots, compete vigorously for that territory, and keep growing as the roots extend. Healthy garden soil usually has them; sterile bagged mix and worn-out beds usually don't. Adding them restores a population the soil should have.

Is this a fungicide or disease treatment?

No — it's a soil inoculant, and it isn't registered or labeled to prevent or treat plant disease. What it does is ecological: establish beneficial fungi and bacteria that occupy the root zone and compete for its space and resources. If you have an active disease problem, address it with an appropriately labeled product and cultural fixes like drainage and watering habits; use this to build the biology as roots recover.

How is this different from the mycorrhizae and soil microbes products?

All three share a base of organisms; the difference is emphasis. Mycorrhizal fungi form a direct root partnership — best for transplant establishment. Soil microbes leads with the bacteria that drive whole-bed nutrient cycling. This one leads with Trichoderma, the fast fungal colonizers of the zone immediately around roots. For root-zone occupation specifically, start here; for general soil revival or transplanting, the siblings fit better.

Do I still need fertilizer?

Yes — there's no NPK in this at all. Trichoderma and the supporting organisms establish biology around roots, but they don't feed the plant. Run it alongside your regular fertilizer: the biology improves how well roots use what you feed, and the fed plant grows more roots for the biology to colonize. Neither replaces the other, and results with both together beat either alone.

When will I see results?

Trichoderma are fast colonizers by fungal standards — established in the root zone within days to a couple of weeks of contact with moist soil — but the visible evidence comes through the plants. Expect transplants that root in and resume growth sooner, typically noticeable within 3-6 weeks, and steadier performance in beds that historically started slow. Like all soil biology, the effect builds over a season.
