The 3-1-2 ratio (3% nitrogen, 1% phosphate, 2% potash) mirrors what fast-growing foliage plants actually consume — nitrogen-forward for continuous vine and leaf production, without the excess phosphorus most potting mixes never use. Pothos are grown entirely for their trailing foliage, and this ratio keeps them pushing new growth rather than stalling. Over two-thirds of the nitrogen is nitrate nitrogen, the form roots absorb directly, which means faster response and lower burn risk than cheap ammonium-heavy formulas.
Beyond NPK: sea kelp (Ascophyllum nodosum) for natural growth compounds, plus calcium (1%), magnesium (0.5%), iron, boron, copper, manganese, and zinc — the micronutrients that keep leaves glossy and deep green and vines full rather than pale, sparse, and leggy, which is where potted pothos decline first once their mix is spent.

How often should I feed my pothos?
Every 1–2 weeks during spring and summer while it's actively growing, and every 4 weeks in fall and winter. Diluting into your regular watering (1 tsp per quart) keeps nutrition steady without buildup — pothos respond better to small consistent feeding than occasional heavy doses.
Why is my pothos leggy with gaps between the leaves?
Legginess is usually too little light, and weak nutrition makes it worse. This formula supplies steady nitrogen for full growth, but pair it with brighter indirect light — pothos stretch and space out their leaves reaching for light. Feeding plus better light, and trimming the leggy vines to encourage branching, fills the plant back in.
Can I use it on all pothos varieties?
Yes. Golden, marble queen, neon, satin, and the rest share the same foliage-first needs — the dilution and schedule work the same across them. For variegated types like marble queen and manjula, bright indirect light is what holds the variegation; the feeding powers the green growth underneath.
Will this burn my plant?
No — at the directed dilution, the gentle 3-1-2 formula is designed for regular use. Nitrate-based nitrogen and low salt concentration make burn very unlikely. Pothos are hardy feeders, but for recently repotted or newly acquired plants, start at half strength for the first two feedings.
